National mediator re-accreditation
New accreditation standards released
The Australian mediator and dispute resolution accreditation standards (AMDRAS) will soon replace the National mediator accreditation system. We will transition to AMDRAS between 1 July 2024 and 1 July 2025. During the transition, we will update this page to reflect the new standards.
National mediator accreditation is valid for a period of 2 years. After this time, you can apply for re-accreditation through the Dispute Resolution Branch (DRB) if you:
- are currently accredited with the DRB
- meet the accreditation requirements under the National Mediator Accreditation Standards.
What you will need
To meet the accreditation requirements, during your 2-year accreditation period, you must have:
- conducted at least 25 hours of mediation, co-mediation or conciliation (or at least 10 hours under special circumstances)
- completed at least 25 hours of professional development.
To complete your application, you must provide evidence that you have met the accreditation requirements.
If you are not a panel mediator appointed under the Dispute Resolution Centres Act 1990, you must provide evidence of your:
- mediation-related insurance, statutory indemnity or employee status
- professional memberships, employment or affiliations (e.g. Queensland Law Society, Bar Association or other government body).
Evidence of mediation, co-mediation or conciliation
To complete your application, you must provide a record of the mediation, co-mediation or conciliation hours you have conducted.
Evidence of professional development
To complete your application, you must provide details of your professional development including the types of activities, dates and number of hours completed. Professional development activities must be related to the competencies in the Practice Standards and Approval Standards.
Fees and invoices
The fee for 2 years’ re-accreditation is $130.
Receipts are automatically generated after you make your online payment.
If you need a tax invoice, you must select this option on the payment form.
What happens next
We will assess your application within 14 days and if you are successful, you will receive your accreditation certificate .
If you are not successful, you will receive a letter explaining the reasons why your re-accreditation was refused. If you disagree with the decision, you can write to us setting out the reasons why you disagree. The Executive Manager of DRB will consider your reasons and make the final decision on your application.
